Shoppers raging as Liffey Valley introduce parking fees amid cost of living crisis

Liffey Valley shoppers were left raging online this week after the popular shopping centre announced it was going ahead with a new charge for its once-free car park.

Liffey Valley Shopping Centre has, for years, attracted customers for its free parking and access to top high street stores, but as people are hit with increasing prices across the board, many were left annoyed at the news that the added cost was going ahead.

It was originally confirmed back in July that these changes would be made, however, despite the backlash brought on by this, plans are set in motion with the change coming very soon.

There are currently more than 3,000 parking spaces available at the centre, and according to the Irish Times, the new charge will be set at €2.50 for the first hour of parking, with the following two hours set at no additional price.

It is understood that after this two hour grace period - at €2.50 - another €2.50 rate is added to your bill.

Since being announced on social media, customers have been voicing their opinions and it’s safe to say nobody is accepting of the change.

One shopper took to Twitter and wrote: “Many ppl used these shopping centers because it was free parking & kept cars out of city centre. No benefit to shoppers or staff. Retrograde step.”

Another said: “This will literally drive me back into shopping in town. The major advantage of out-of-town centres is the free parking.”

A third wrote: “Ah here. Another money gouging effort and timed to catch Christmas rush.”

The date for its introduction has yet to be confirmed however, some are reporting that it will be in effect in time for the Christmas shopping season.
