Shoppers raging as Asda and Sainsbury's raise delivery slot prices

Supermarket giants Asda and Sainsbury's have made big changes to their delivery slot prices, and many shoppers aren't happy about it.

Ahead of the festive season and the end of England’s second lockdown - the two have upped the price of deliveries.

With England expected to return to a tiered system after lockdown lifts on December 2, supermarkets will no doubt be under added pressure in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

The price shakeup means Asda customers will now pay an extra £1 for the retailer’s most expensive delivery slots, there will be a surcharge for smaller orders and vulnerable shoppers will now have to pay for delivery.

Sainsbury’s has also upped its delivery prices, with its cheapest one-hour delivery slot quadrupling to £2.

Instead, Sainbury’s is now offering ‘saver slots’ for £1, where shoppers can reserve a delivery slot over four hours and only find out the exact hour on the day of delivery.

Many shoppers have taken to social media to question the supermarket’s decisions, with some claiming the stores are using lockdown to “kick people when they’re down”.

On Twitter, one person wrote: “@Sainburys I have booked a delivery for my parents for 50p on Tuesday pm since shielding began. This now costs £4. Is this right? They cannot have a 4hr slot as they have carers in at specific times. 800% increase in price?!”

Another said: “@asda putting the price of delivery slots up to £7!!! Exploitation at its finest! You should be ashamed of yourselves! Using a national lockdown to kick people when they’re down!”

A third wrote: “Nice to see that @Asda are cashing in on #lockdown2uk by increasing the price of my regular delivery slot by 15%! @AsdaServiceTeam it’s great to see you doing your bit to help out in difficult times! #ThatsAsdaPrice #SaveMoneyLiveBetter”.
