Shoppers left stunned at posh sterling silver ketchup bottle lid put on sale for £110

Shoppers have been left stunned after spotting a ketchup bottle lid on sale for a whopping £110 - and it's not even vintage.

A sterling silver lid for a ketchup bottle was put on sale online, but ketchup-lovers and shoppers alike have branded the product as "mad".

A brand called Ware Collective have designed the item they describe themselves as "ludicrous", claiming to have re-invented the way households seal their sauce, with a posh and elevated lid.

However, dozens of people on social media have ended up questioning the motives behind the cash -stealing cap - with some even saying that it would never fit on a squeezy bottle.

The ridiculous item has been designed by “innovative silverware” brand Ware Collective (Ware Collective/Wolf&Badger)

The Ketchup Sterling Lid is for sale on the Wolf & Badger website and has been described as "simply the best," with images showing it in use on a Heinz tomato ketchup glass bottle.

The description reads: "A Sterling Silver lid for arguably the nation's most popular condiment, the infamous red sauce.

"Handcrafted in Birmingham 's renowned silver quarter, each jar lid is hallmarked with the British Assay hallmarks and can be engraved with a name, date or personal message.

"Elevate your breakfast table by adding a touch of ludicrous luxury.

"Lid comes on a ketchup jar and can be swapped onto replacement jars when the first one is used up."

But, the ludicrous top has been slammed by shoppers on social media, who spotted it on the website, with many saying that people must have 'more money than sense'.

Posting the pictures to a Facebook group, one person said: "OK, I typically like or want a lot of the stuff posted on this page but even this is too much for me."

Another retorted: "I thought it was some fancy bottle but it's just the LID???" to which another replied: "Sounds like you get a free bottle of ketchup with it no?"

While a third person said: "Brilliant until someone chucks the bottle in the recycling including the £110 lid because it's empty."

Another simply chimed in: "The world has officially gone mad."

And another joked: "Maybe they meant £1.10?"

One person jokingly wrote: "I know a ketchup addict who'd love this as a gift - but he's going to have to work damn hard for that price!"

While others found that the lid would not be multi-purpose, saying: "What if you use a squeezy bottle?"

A staggering 650 million bottles of Heinz tomato ketchup are sold around the world annually.
