Shoppers left in tears by Home Bargains stranger handing out cash and handwritten notes

A woman was left shocked after being handed an envelope of cash by a complete stranger in Home Bargains.

Becca Bate, 39, was entering the store in Liscard, with her daughter-in-law on Monday, when a woman gave her the white envelope before walking out the door.

Written on the front of it was a message which said: "Enjoy your shopping! In memory of my dad who passed 19/11/20. A gift for you!"

It wasn't until they got inside the store that the pair looked inside the envelope and were shocked to find a £20 note.

Becca told the ECHO: "I was just about to walk into Home Bargains and this lady just came over to us and asked 'can I just give you this?' It was a white envelope.

"I was quite stunned really, I didn't know what it was.

"I walked into Home Bargains and then I opened it and there was £20 inside. I was shocked.

"I said to my daughter in law 'oh my god there's £20 in here'.

"A couple of people were looking at me, I must have looked that shocked that someone had given me something."

Becca said the woman walked away before she had a chance to thank her for the random act of kindness.

In a bid to try and track her down and spread the word about the kind gesture, she posted what happened in a community group on Facebook.

Becca said: "I wanted to say thank you to her and let people know there are kind people out there in these difficult times.

"It was touched by it, it was absolutely lovely."

Becca's heartwarming Facebook post received over 1,000 likes and 84 comments, including one from a woman who said the same thing had also happened to her that day.

She wrote: "I also received the same thing today as I was going into Iceland. The lady took me completely by surprise and it all happened so fast that I didn't get to say thank you properly.

"I wasn't sure how to feel at the time. I should've been happy but I was a little shocked as to why she had chosen me out of everyone around her at the time.

"It then had me in tears when I'd finally sat down and re-read what was written on the envelope as the lady in question had lost her dad two days before I lost my step mum.

"Although we were complete strangers we had something in common without her even knowing. I've decided I'm going to do something like this too to continue her kindness and hopefully make someone smile just like she did me x."
