A 27-year-old woman allegedly assaulted two retail employees and damaged property at a Belconnen shopping centre on Wednesday.

Before the proceedings could continue, the court ordered that the woman, who is not being named at this time, be taken to a mental health hospital for evaluation.

Police allege that around 11.50am on Wednesday, the woman approached a staff member inside a department store, repeatedly shouted at her, and then assaulted her.

She is further alleged to have damaged several items within the store before assaulting a second staff member shortly after, at which point members of the public intervened.

Police and security were called, where they located the woman inside the store, and arrested her. She was then taken to the ACT Watch House.

Police said she was subject to good behaviour obligations at the time of the alleged assault.
