Shoppers in disbelief as they slam M&S for its 'terrible' new product which tried to settle debate

Marks & Spencer was slammed by shoppers as it announced details of its latest product which arrived in stores yesterday.

The retailer took its Facebook feed to share its new product which it described as a "game changer" but sadly not everyone was of the same opinion.

Alongside an image revealing its new strawberry- flavoured clotted cream, M&S said: "What comes first – jam or cream? Now you don’t have to choose thanks to our new strawberry-flavoured clotted cream. It’s a sweet scone game changer – and it’s in store now."

It is referring to the long standing debate over what goes first on a scone the cream or the jam.

While the image looked nice enough, its followers had other ideas with one commenting underneath saying: "Jam (strawberry or raspberry) first and regular clotted cream... there is no other way!!! This is a terrible idea."

Another said: "That is so wrong!!!! You need the two separate flavours and textures."

A third added: "But you've used jam anyway M&S so what's the point? Sorry, but imho this idea is just rubbish. Anyone who enjoys a scone with jam and cream appreciates it the way it is."

And a fourth said: "I'm all for innovation, love the marmite cream cheese, but this is just wrong!!"

The Strawberry cream is available at M&S Food Halls now including those based in Aintree, Queens Drive and Edge Lane.

One M&S customer did jump to the retailer's defence, they said: "Oh my god. I bought this today and it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. You can have extra jam or not. Up to you. Seems to me people have their own choices. Get over yourselves haters. Oh, and by the way. Get a life"
