Shoppers hit by traffic delays after crash blocks part of busy route near supermarkets

Shoppers can expect heavy queues around the supermarkets near Swinton Square after a crash blocked part of a busy route near the stores.

Emergency services rushed to the crash, at the junction of Swinton Hall Road and Pendlebury Road, shortly before 2pm this afternoon.

Witnesses reported seeing two fire crews, a number of police officers, and two ambulances at the scene of the "bad crash".

The accident has caused delays along Swinton Hall Road, with traffic queueing in both directions on the approach.

Shoppers hoping to go to Morrisons, Asda, or Aldi by car may experience delays due to the congestion.

Drivers heading around the incident have also seen delays on Wellington Road, and the southbound section of Station Road.

Traffic on the A666 Bolton road, heading towards Hospital Road, is also slow moving.

Drivers have been asked to take care in the area whilst congestion eases.

It is not yet known whether anyone was injured in the crash.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for more information.
