Shoppers have their say on what they want to replace Forever 21

Liverpool's Forever 21 store has closed for the final time this week with the building now standing empty on the corner of Church Street and Whitechapel.

The building stands out on Liverpool's high street so it's a shame to see it empty with all fixtures and fittings now clear.

We were out in the city centre this afternoon, asking shoppers which retailer they wanted to see announced next for the building.

Past occupants have included Barratts Shoes.

The majority of shoppers we spoke to were shocked to see the once popular fashion store closed for good.

Answers included TK Maxx's sister store Homesense with one shopper claiming it "would be great" to see the retailer open up a shop in the city centre.

Others liked the idea of a large independent restaurant taking over the site.

Back in October 2019, signs were placed in Forever 21's windows which read "closing down everything must go", which appeared alongside ones advertising for Christmas staff.

Uncertainty surrounding the future of the city's Forever 21 store started in September when it closed "due to unforeseen circumstances" after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the USA.

At the time, a statement from the company said it planned to "exit most international locations in Asia and Europe" and expects to close up to 350 stores worldwide.

Since the announcements last year the store has been offering up to 80% off products with jewellery items for around 50p.
