Shoppers fume as Kevin the Carrot sold for huge mark-up on eBay hours after launch

As the most wonderful time of the year approaches, we've seen Christmas adverts come one after the other - and the iconic Kevin the Carrot is back with an advert that is cheekier than ever.

Every year, Aldi releases Kevin the Carrot toys, and they go down a treat with keen consumers - with some even queuing outside their local store from 4am to try and bag themselves a plush orange pal.

This morning (November 17) over 70,000 people headed to an online queue to try and get their hands on their favourite characters from the ad - but those who were unsuccessful will not be impressed with how much they're selling for on re-sale site eBay.

The Kevin & Animal Friends Set - which retails for £11.95 - is being flogged for a mammoth markup on eBay hours after going on sale, as someone wants £70 for the set.

In-store, the whole collection which includes 13 teddies and ten tree decorations, will cost less as just £51.80.

A new-with-tags Kevin the Carrot in a kilt is being flogged for £29.99, despite only costing £3.99 in store. Meanwhile, the Plush Christmas Footballer Set was up for grabs in store for £15.95 but is now being sold for £64.99.

This morning, Aldi's website crashed after Christmas fanatics tried to get their hands on the festive characters collection, which has now sold out online.

Customers who couldn’t get down to the store were held in a virtual queue that read: "Nearly there! Kevin and his family are back together and can't wait to meet you."

Aldi warned shoppers about the new range, writing: "Once they're gone, they're gone."

The collection has now totally sold out online, but some eagle-eyed shoppers have spotted the plushies still in store.

One Kevin fan queued up in the rain to add the carrot and his friends, plus a Kevin the Carrot advent calendar, to her collection.

She said: "New additions to the family this morning.

"Waiting in the rain was so worth it!"

Another fan queued outside first in line for 90 minutes, sharing an image of the supermarket door as he waited.

He penned: "It's carrot day. First in line, been here since half six. One hour to go."
