Shoppers freaked out by Marks and Spencer's new 'terrifying' Colin the Caterpillar cake

It's no secret Mark and Spencer's Colin the Caterpillar has become one of the most popular chocolate cakes going since it was introduced 30 years ago.

Over the decades the retailer has provided shoppers with all different variations of the cylindrical cake, from Colin's wife, Connie, Halloween and Christmas Colins, to mini rolls and even massive wedding cakes.

And now with spring approaching, the high-street giant has created an Easter Bunny-themed Colin, kitted out with white chocolate rabbit ears and mini orange fondant carrots.

But as seasonal and festive as the cake may seem, many people are being left feeling creeped out by Colin's latest look.

Some people have even likened the cake to the Halloween rabbit character in the fantasy-thriller movie Donnie Darko.

News of Mark and Spencer's Easter cake was shared by Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK.

And while many flocked to comment on the cake's 'yummy' appearance, lots of others thought otherwise.

One unimpressed commenter put: "Most disturbing looking bunny I’ve ever seen!"

Another joked: "Looks like the bunny from Donnie Darko. They should save it for Halloween, it look demonic.

"An Easter bunny that's a caterpillar. Poor confused bunnypillar." A third quipped.

Someone else wrote: "It looks possessed and since when has a rabbit had 6 legs... Defo won't be buying"

Some people worried that cake may look too scary for their children, with other branding it as 'confusing'.

One Facebook user wrote: "Jeez looks like the rabbit from donnie darko!!!! My daughter would freak out looking at that"

Another put: "Is it just me or does that rabbit look evil? Kinda crazy ? I think that cake would scare children and the elderly!"

"Since when did rabbits have six legs" A third commented.

Another joker wrote: "I fear something bad has happened here a mutant cross - half rabbit half caterpillar - I’m not sure I get it ! could this be one step to far!"

A fourth said: "Looks bit scary but tasty lol", while a fifth added: "That looks sinister, kids be scared stiff..."

But not everyone was creeped out, one person said: "It's a fabulous tasty cake I have to say x"

Another agreed: "Looks good and tastes good to x"

If you did want to get your hands on the Easter Bunny cake, you'll need to wait until 31 March, when it will be available in stores across the country, at £10 each.
