Shoppers are going crazy over a 99p spider repellent that stops the home invasion

A 99p spray that keeps spiders from invading homes has gone viral in a bargain-hunter Facebook group.

Users of the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Group spotted the 99p spray in Home Bargains and is quickly gathered thousands of responses from arachnophobic savers.

The spray is made by The Buzz and is simply called spider repellent. It can be sprayed on windows and doors to create a barrier that will block spiders from entering homes as the weather gets colder.

The 500ml bottles are on sale for less than £1 at Home Bargains but are not available on the website. They are on sale online at Amazon and Robert Dyas.

Bargain hunters in the group were quick to praise the deal with one saying: "Right now I just need 50 gallons of the stuff to pour all over my house and gardens."

Another says: "Great price. Going to try. Have been using another brand at four times the price."

Not everybody agreed the deal was a good one. A user had a simpler solution to stopping a spider invasion. They said: " Just put a conker in the room, no need to buy sprays or repellents."

A fan of spiders responded: "Spiders are allowed to live in my home. The take care of the flies."

September is known as spider season in the UK. In August experts at the Bristol Zoological Society told the  Liverpool Echo  that the weather is to blame for the early arrival of the creepy crawlies and that the mating season – which usually begins in September - started early this year. That means the females are coming inside.

The females, which are larger than the males and can often carry up to 100 offspring at once, search houses for somewhere warm to lay eggs.

However, experts also point out that spiders are excellent at pest control and help to keep insect populations including wasps and flies low.
