Shoppers are furious after Tesco gets rid of its in-store one way system

Tesco has been busy removing as many of the restrictions it put in place during lockdown as it can safely, but shoppers are unconvinced.

And the supermarket's decision last week to remove its in-store one way system last week has caused particular outrage among customer.

One way aisles started being removed from July 8, with shoppers taking to social media to complain to the supermarket giant as soon as they saw the changes, telling the store they now felt unsafe, MyLondon reports.

One shopper posted on Twitter : "Tesco, I am absolutely astounded that you have decided to remove the one way system in your store. You have gone from being a place which I thought was fantastically organised to somewhere I no longer feel safe. Please reinstate it, and please stop large groups entering."

Another wrote: "Why have you removed one way system? Only reason I've stuck with you during Covid! Even your staff I spoke to now feel unsafe."

One disgruntled shopper added: "I asked a Tesco supervisor last week when I was following their one-way system, which I'd sadly memorised, why so many people were ignoring it. I hadn't noticed they'd done away with it. His answer was that people weren't sticking to it."

A person on Twitter told one friend: "Don't go into Tesco. They have removed all the social distance makers and no longer a one way system. What a bloody joke? As an NHS worker who has recovered from Covid, I'm fuming about this!"

Another customer said: "Tesco is 'back to normal' according to the woman on the door. People going every which way up the aisles, no social distancing and yet still being asked to remain within certain boundaries at the till. I do not like it. I rather enjoyed the one way system."

One furiously wrote: "Have you lost your sense of safety or is it our money you want instead of keeping us safe? I was disgusted by what I saw in the Surrey Quays branch in the last couple of days."

Other complaints included people describing the scene as 'chaos' and noting that it actually took them longer to do their shop than it did when there was a one way system.

In a response to one of the comments Tesco said: "We have been listening to customer feedback and monitoring how our social distancing measures are working in practice and have decided to remove the one-way system in stores to help customers do their shopping safely and efficiently, while maintaining a 2 metre distance."

Another reply from Tesco said: "I have now fed your concerns back to our support team to have this looked in to. Hopefully if enough like-minded customers get in touch about this we will bring back the one way system back again in the near future."

However, not everyone was angry with the decision. One Twitter user said: "I’ve never been happier to see the one way system go in Tesco."
