Shopper shoved to the ground in attack over face mask speaks out from hospital bed

A 54-year-old woman was shoved to the ground after asking a fellow shopper to wear her face mask amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Margot Kagan has spoken out from her hospital bed about the violent assault in a shop in New Jersey.

The shocking incident was captured in CCTV security footage and police are searching for the attacker.

Dramatic video footage shows the victim being grabbed by the arm and yanked onto the floor.

Margot, who recently had a liver transplant and is using a cane while she recovers, told ABC 7 she broke her knee in the assault.

She said a steel plate needed to be put in and claims she has been told by doctors she won't be able to put weight on her leg for up to 10 weeks.

Margot has said she plans on pressing charges.

The incident unfolded as she was using a fax machine inside a Staples store.

Margot says she noticed a woman next to her not wearing a face covering and when she asked the woman to wear her mask, she allegedly cursed at her.

Margot said: "So that's when she took it upon herself to leave her little cube area and come in mine, but she's, face-to-face with me, without the mask on properly.

"I held up my cane so she couldn't go any more forward. I didn't touch her with it. At some point, she grabbed the cane and threw me and it on the floor."

She added: "I hope karma gets her."
