A shopper was rushed to hospital after he was injured when a ceiling collapsed inside a Sainsbury's store.
Shaz Akram was paying for his cigarettes inside the branch in Newcastle Central Station when he heard a loud drilling noise and the ceiling then collapsed.
He was hit by a piece of the ceiling and suffered the worst injuries out of everyone who was in the queue with him on Wednesday at around 3pm, Chronicle Live reports.
The 36-year-old, from High Heaton, said: "I popped into Sainsbury's as I wanted some cigarettes.
"As I stood there, I heard a big drilling sound.

"Then all of the ceiling fell through onto my face."
Mr Akram said a family including a pregnant woman and a child were behind him, as well as an older lady, when the ceiling came down.
Images of the immediate aftermath show debris around the self checkout area of the store.
Newcastle Central Station is currently undergoing building work.
Although nobody was seriously hurt, Shaz suffered the worst injuries and an ambulance was called.
When he arrived at hospital Shaz was placed in neck brace as a precaution in case of any neck injury, and was taken for an X-ray.

He luckily only suffered scrapes and bruises.
He is on painkillers and is wearing a wrist support after hurting his hand in the incident.
He added that his clothes had been "ruined" after being covered with dust from the ceiling.
Despite the damage caused in the shop, Shaz said customers were still trying to come in forcing the security guard to closed the doors.
The store has been since closed while an investigation is carried out into what happened but Mr Akram has now questioned why it was allowed to stay opened during works were going on.
He said: "Renovations were going on in the station.
"But if they knew the shop was downstairs, why would you do something that's unsafe?
"All of the ceiling's come down. Luckily I had a cap on."
A spokesperson from LNER, which manage Newcastle Central Station said: “We are aware of an incident within a retail outlet at Newcastle Central Station and an investigation is currently under way.”
A spokesperson for Sainsbury's said: "We are supporting LNER with its investigation into an incident which took place in our Newcastle Central Station store on Wednesday.
"We are working with them further to support the customers affected. The store is temporarily closed whilst repair works are completed and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."
