Shopper had jaw broken in two places in serious assault in store

A man who broke a shopper's jaw in Tesco has been jailed.

Stuart Siddall asked how Ethan Golding was as Mr Golding left the self-service till at the Yate store, Bristol Crown Court heard today (January 14).

When Mr Golding tried to shake his hand Siddall punched him in the face, fracturing his jaw in two places.

Siddall, 31, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to wounding following the assault in November 2017.

Judge Julian Lambert jailed him for six months.

He told Siddall: "The consequences were very serious indeed for your victim.

"It takes a forceful punch to cause damage like that.

"You have your troubles, you suffer from psychosis.

"You remain responsible for your actions that day."

Clare Fear, prosecuting, told the court Mr Golding had gone out with an ex-girlfriend of Siddall.

She said Siddall struck Mr Golding and swung a second punch which missed but hit a pram.

A third punch was similarly dodged before the pair grappled on the ground and were pulled apart by staff.

Emily Heggadon, defending, said her client had been diagnosed with psychosis and had received hospital treatment and support which he was keen to maintain.

Miss Heggadon said: "He's not proud of his behaviour.

"There is a background.

"These were a very particular set of circumstances and it it not likely to be repeated."
