Shopper finds heartbreaking note in pocket of suit jacket bought at charity shop

A woman who found a handwritten note in an item of clothing she bought at a charity shop has left people heartbroken to learn its previous owner didn't get their wish.

The shopper, from the US, had been browsing in the second-hand shop when she stumbled across a red jacket, but only discovered a piece of paper tucked inside one of the pockets when she took the new purchase home.

A post shared to Facebook reads: "Thrift shopping - JoAnn found this lovely red jacket and it had a note pinned in the pocket."

It shows a red suit jacket with embroidery stitched onto the collar and pocket flaps, and the note attached with a pin inside reads: "Bury me in this red suit."

The photos racked up hundreds of comments as people were saddened to see that the wish had not be fulfilled.

One person wrote: "Oh, I hope she got buried in something wonderful."

A second said: "She probably should have pinned it in a more obvious place. Deciding what to dress your loved one in for their funeral is so difficult and emotional. I’m sure her family would have done it if the note wasn’t hidden."

A third suggested: "Should have pinned that on the outside of the jacket!"

Someone else hoped: "Maybe there was another jacket with a tag that said, 'Actually, bury me in this one instead'..."

And another said: "Well, that makes me really sad. Either her one humble wish was not honoured or... maybe she's living forever!"

Others said the note would have put them off, as one wrote: "That’s creepy, couldn’t wear it", and another agreed by replying to say: "Me either."

Some said they hoped the shopper would be able to track down the previous owner's family and return the jacket for them to decide what to do with it.
