Shoplifter who made knife claim is jailed

A shoplifter who claimed to have a knife was jailed for 230 days at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

James McBurnie, 43, of Watson Street, Motherwell, admitted stealing a power tool and other items from Wilko in Brandon Parade, Motherwell, on June 14 while already on bail.

He also admitted shouting abuse, making threats and claiming to have a blade.

The court heard McBurnie was on early release from prison when the incidents happened.
