Shoplifter who 'blatantly' swipes from stores banned from town centre for FIVE years

A serial shoplifter has been banned from a town centre for five years. Daniel Quinlan is also barred from a retail park. If he goes to either he faces a jail sentence.

Quinlan has been handed a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) in a bid to curb his offending. The 38-year-old from Brooklyn Street, Crewe, has a history of shoplifting in the town, his latest offence occurred on September 8th when he stole toiletries worth £277.88 from Superdrug. Since September 2021 he has received 31 convictions.

The order, which was granted at Chester Crown Court on Friday 11 November, means that he is now banned from entering Crewe town centre and Grand Junction Retail Park for the next five years.

In addition, Quinlan is not allowed to be under the influence of any drunk or drugs in any public place. Sergeant Steve Tandy, of Crewe Local Policing Unit, said: “Daniel Quinlan is a persistent shoplifter who blatantly steals in order to fund his addictions.

“While we have previously attempted to engage with him, there comes a point when you have to say enough is enough and take additional action to protect stores. The ongoing financial crisis has had a significant impact on businesses and the last thing that shops in Crewe need is to continue to be targeted by a serial shoplifter like Quinlan.

“CBOs are preventative orders with strict restrictions that are imposed in a bid to stop persistent offenders committing further crimes. They are applied for separately to prosecutions for criminal offences as a last resort, and I am pleased to say that we have seen a significant reduction of offending in Cheshire from those who are subject to a CBO.

“It is an offence to breach the terms of a CBO. The sanctions imposed for doing so can be severe, with the maximum penalty being five years in prison. I hope that the CBO has the desired effect and prevents Quinlan from committing further shoplifting offences."

Anyone who encounters Quinlan breaching the terms of his CBO over the next five years is asked to contact Cheshire Constabulary on 101 to report it.
