Shoplifter escaped with energy drinks, sandwiches and a Henry hoover in crime spree

A prolific shoplifter escaped from stores with variety of goods - a sound bar and speakers, energy drinks, a Henry hoover, Prosecco and sandwiches. Danny Wright pleaded guilty to six charges of theft when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Monday (March 13).

The court heard he went into TK Maxx, at the St Peter's Retail Park, St Peter's Way, Mansfield, and helped himself to Diesel jumpers. He took two cans of Monster energy drink from Rosemary Street Service Station, Mansfield, and the Henry Hoover from B&M stores.

He went on to take four bottles of Prosecco, on two separate occasions, from a Coop store, before returning to Rosemary Street Service Station to help himself to sandwiches. Wright, who has no fixed address, and is aged 25, and has 16 offences across three convictions.

In February 2023, he was handed a community order for nine shop thefts, which he breached due to the new offences he pleaded guilty to today. Frank Sheeran, mitigating, told the court: "Despite being homeless, he is actually doing quite well."

A probation officer said Wright has attended five out of eight sessions, with two acceptable absences, and he has been referred to Change Grow Live, a national health and social care charity. Magistrates decided on a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, after they were encouraged he is engaging positively with the probation service and on a drug rehabiliation requirement.

But they ordered he pay compensation to the stores he stole from.
