Shopkeeper stabbed during armed robbery in south Manchester

Police are investigating after a shopkeeper was stabbed during an armed robbery in south Manchester.

Officers were called to Wellington Road in Withington just before 5pm today.

It's understood a man went into the shop, close to Withington Library, armed with a weapon.

There was a confrontation between the robber and the member of staff, and the worker ended up with stab wounds to the wrist.

The thief then fled the scene, though it is unclear at this stage whether anything was stolen.

Ambulance crews arrived and the shopkeeper was taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesman for GMP confirmed an investigation was underway, and that no arrests had yet been made.

They said: "We were called just before 4.55pm to reports of an armed robbery at a shop on Wellington Road.

"A man armed with a weapon went into the shop. There was a confrontation and the shopkeeper was injured.

"He was taken to hospital with stab wounds to the wrist.

"The offender fled the scene before officers arrived.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
