A shopkeeper was berated by a racist thug after confronting the would-be thief when he walked out with a bottle of wine.

Police are investigating the shocking incident in Mossley, in Tameside, on Sunday night.

Footage shared on social media shows a man kicking at the door of SM News on Stamford Street while screaming at those inside.

It is understood he went into the store between 5pm and 6pm and grabbed a bottle of wine from a shelf.

The man went to leave, but was followed by the shopkeeper, who stopped him and snatched the wine back.

The thug then began shouting racist abuse while kicking the front door.

It is understood the shopkeeper then went outside to confront the man, who eventually walked away.

PC Martin Dench, NBO for Mossley , confirmed the shopkeeper was not physically hurt during the incident.

He is said he is aware of the footage that was posted on social media, which the Manchester Evening News understands has since been removed.

CCTV enquiries are also underway.

PC Dench is now urging anyone who saw what happened, or who has any information, to come forward and contact him on 15875@gmp.police.uk, or call GMP on 101.
