Shopkeeper battered over crate of Tennent's

Three thugs battered a Paisley shopkeeper for a crate of Tennent’s lager.

The yobs attacked the 65-year-old man after he challenged them when he spotted them trying to steal booze.

Police are hunting two men and a woman over the robbery, which happened at Cans Local in George Street, around 7.40pm on Thursday.

The victim was left with an injured hand in the rammy as the group wrestled with him in the shop.

It’s understood one of the men first tried to nick a bottle of wine but the owner stopped him.

The lout then returned with his pals and again they attempted to steal a case of beer.

They turned violent when the determined shopkeeper took them to task.

Detectives say the group then made off with a crate of Tennent’s lager worth around £11

The first suspect is described as a white male, with short dark hair, wearing a red jacket, navy tracksuit bottoms and dark trainers.

The second suspect is also a white male. He was wearing a bright blue bubble jacket, with a blue hoodie under it and he had on navy tracksuit trousers.

Suspect three is a white female, of slim build. She had long blonde hair up in a messy bun, and was wearing a green jacket and skinny blue jeans with rips at the knees.

Detective Inspector Bob Bowie, from Paisley, hit out at the violent outburst.

He said: “A shop worker, or indeed anyone working, should be able to go about their job without fear of violence and intimidation.

“The victim was in his premises at the time and had every right to feel safe there.

“Three individuals have assaulted him and stolen property before making off, which is completely unacceptable.”

He added: “The suspects were all wearing distinctive clothing at the time and I would ask anyone who thinks they might be able to identify them to please come forward to police.

“If you have any information at all I would urge you to come forward.”

Anyone with information should phone Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
