Shopee touts Xiaomi store with exclusive handset deals

Shopee's Terence Pang says Thais are embracing online sales of electronics.

Shopee, an e-commerce platform for Southeast Asia, has joined with Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi to launch the Xiaomi official store in Shopee Mall.

With this partnership, more than 17 million Shopee users in Thailand can access a wide variety of Xiaomi products, including the company's popular range of smartphones, at competitive prices.

To celebrate the launch of the Xiaomi store, the popular 16GB Redmi 5 model will be sold on Shopee at a special price through an exclusive flash sale on March 16 at noon.

Shopee will also hold storewide sales on March 15, with up to 15% coin cashback across the Xiaomi range in the Xiaomi store.

Terence Pang, chief operating officer of Shopee, said the number of Thai consumers purchasing electronics online is growing tremendously, with smartphone sales in particular surging in the past few years.

"In Thailand, electronics is currently the leading product category sold online, with a total market volume of US$1.25 million in 2017, and is also one of the top-performing categories on Shopee," he said.

John Chen, Xiaomi's regional director for Southeast Asia, said Thailand's e-commerce market is expected to see high growth this year.

The Redmi 5 is a dual micro SIM smartphone with a 5.7-inch full-screen display.

Products listed on the Xiaomi official store are available with a 15-day return policy, a 100% authenticity guarantee and free shipping nationwide.
