Shop worker threatened with knife during South Belfast armed robbery

A shop worker was threatened with a knife during an armed robbery today in South Belfast.

The PSNI are investigating the incident that took place just after 1.05pm today on the Ormeau Road, when a is reported to have entered a shop armed with a knife and threatened a member of staff before fleeing with a quantity of cash.

The man is believed to have fled in the direction of Baroda Street.

He has been described as being in his 30s, around 6ft tall and was wearing a light blue hooded top with a white pattern on it, grey tracksuit bottoms and blue, black and white coloured trainers.

He was also wearing a disposable blue face-mask.

No one was injured during the incident but the member of staff was left badly shaken.

Detective Sergeant Corrigan said: “Shortly before 1:05pm, it was reported that a man entered a shop armed with a knife. He threatened a male member of staff and demanded the contents of the till. The man made off from the shop with a sum of money towards Baroda Street following the incident. The staff member was not injured but left badly shaken.

“The man is described as being aged in his 30s, of medium build and 6 ft. in height. He was wearing a light blue hooded top with a white pattern on it, grey tracksuit bottoms and blue, black and white coloured trainers. The man was also wearing a blue, disposable facemask during the incident.

“Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 960 24/08/20. An online report can be submitted using the non-emergency reporting form via  http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/   or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
