Shop staff handed £2,500 each as Games Workshop shares bumper profits around

Staff at Games Workshop have been handed thousands each by the retailer after the shop's final results came in.

The firm, which designs, manufactures and sells models and games - as well as licensing these for other productions - saw its profits come in at more than £80 million for the past 12 months, and promptly handed a bunch of it out to staff.

"In recognition of our staff's contribution to these results, we paid during the year profit share bonuses amounting in total to £5 million," the company said in an update to shareholders.

"These were paid on an equal basis to each member of staff."

That works out at more than £2,500 for every person who works there.

Group pre-tax profits will be more than £80 million for the year, the firm said.

That's up from £74.5 million in the year before, and means they're redistributing almost the entire rise in profits back to the people who work there.

More, it's the second year in a row that staff at the fantasy games firm have been given big bonuses - with £5 million pushed out last year after the company doubled profits.

Shareholders weren't forgotten though, with the firm saying £1.55 was paid out per share this year too - up from £1.26 a share the year before.

Games Workshop shares jumped after today's update.

Not the only firm doing it

Last month the boss of Richer Sounds said he was handing all his staff a bonus - worth £1,000 for each year they've worked for the TV and hi-fi firm, with the average payout of £8,000.

A few of them - who've been working there for more than 20 years - will get an awful lot more than that.

“This is to thank loyal, hardworking colleagues,” Julian Richer said.

But that wasn't the end of it, with the electronics firm's founder also handing a controlling stake in the entire business over to staff too - meaning in future they will be in charge of the company as well.
