Shop offers free slush in exchange for keeping the park clean

As rubbish continues to mount up in Liverpool's parks and open spaces, one business owner has decided to do something about it.

Alan Gordon, who runs The Bread Shop Bakery in Aigburth Road, is offering a free coffee, slush or ice cream to people who want to help out.

In a Facebook post, he said: "Many have noticed that the parks Sefton, Otterspool, Greenbank and Aigburth's side streets have become full of litter.

"We have gloves ready if you bring a bag full of rubbish to us we will swap it for a coffee, slush, ice cream as a thank you.

"We have an extra bin outside that we will pay a private company to dispose of it.

"The litter is a problem and now with the parks being used more it has gotten worse.. South Liverpool's parks are wonderful, let's keep it that way."

Social media has been flooded over the weekend with appalling images of litter left lying around and overflowing bins left by people having picnics and barbecues in the region's parks and open spaces.

Scorching weekend temperatures have led people to abandon lockdown and social distancing measures to gather in large groups and enjoy the sunshine.

But it's led to shocking scenes of broken glass, rubbish, and burn marks to grass as people leave their litter behind.
