A man and a woman have been killed and three other people left with life-threatening injuries after shots were fired near Muzik, a Toronto nightclub where Drake was hosting an afterparty following his Ovo Fest music festival.

Toronto news network CP24 reports that the incident took place at 3.30am on Tuesday morning, with police sealing off a large section of the Exhibition grounds complex where the nightclub is located. One of the victims died at the scene, the other later in hospital.

Diana Petrucci of the network said: “Paramedics tell us that the scene is very very large and widespread. Things a bit chaotic there right now … We don’t know if it happened inside Muzik nightclub yet or outside but it seems to be centred around that nightclub.”

It mirrors a similar incident following last year’s festival, where a man was shot near Muzik following the afterparty there. The nightclub distanced itself from the shooting, saying: “This unfortunate incident occurred some distance away from our premises at 4am, long after Muzik had closed.”

The afterparty was taking place following the Ovo Fest at the weekend, where Drake performed a set that continued his fortnight-long dispute with fellow rapper Meek Mill. Other acts included J Cole, Big Sean and YG, while surprise guests included Kanye West, Pharrell and UK grime star Skepta.
