Shooting 'linked to gang war' after man had 'machine gun' in street

A shooting in north Liverpool was linked to a long running gang feud in the area, it has been claimed.

Police were called out to William Henry Street in the Everton area last week after shots were fired on Wednesday night ( August 18.)

The force confirmed that shots were fired but there were no reported injuries.

Now a local man has told the ECHO that the shooting was linked to a long running 'gang war' in the area. He also said that one of the men involved in last week's shooting had a machine gun although it is not yet clear if the gun was fired.

He said: "This is part of a really bad fall-out in the Everton area. They have got machine guns and its really a bad business. "

Police told the ECHO that they had not yet established what type of weapon was used in the shooting.

Today a spokesperson for the force said :"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and police continue to appeal for anyone with any further information to come forward"

Forensic officers were seen in Willian Henry Street last Thursday after the late night shooting.

Last week a senior officer expressed concern.

Chief Inspector Steve Hardy said: "We’re in the very early stages of an investigation into a gun being fired on William Henry Street and we would appeal for anyone with any information to come forward.

"Firing a weapon is extremely reckless and while, thankfully, nobody was injured, this would have been shocking for the local community.

"We're keen to hear from anyone in the area who saw or heard anything yesterday evening, or captured anyone in the area on CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices.

"We will act on all information provided on gun crime to remove weapons and those who use them from the community. Please come forward with what you know, directly or anonymously, and we will do the rest."
