Shon Weissman 'a Celtic transfer target' as Hoops draw up Odsonne Edouard contingency plan

Celtic will look to Shon Weissman if Odsonne Edouard leaves this summer - according to a report.

Neil Lennon is determined to keep his talisman at Parkhead for next season's tilt at a historic Ten in a Row despite interest from England.

Record Sport previously revealed that Brendan Rodgers and Leicester City were considering a summer move for the Frenchman.

He's also been linked with the likes of Arsenal amid uncertainty over captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's future.

But The Telegraph report Celtic have identified prolific Wolfsberger striker Weissman as an option should Edouard move on.

The 24-year-old scored 29 goals in 30 appearances for the Austrian Bundesliga side, including Europa League strikes against Roma and Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Weissman is entering the final year of his contract having joined from Maccabi Haifa on a free transfer in July 2019.

Lennon recently insisted he does not expect any of his top stars to depart the club during the upcoming transfer window.

And he hopes the lure of creating history will be enough to convince Edouard to stick around for another year.

The Celtic boss said: “It is inevitable there will be speculation surrounding Odsonne because of the player and talent he is.

“He hasn’t said anything to me about wanting to go.

"Whether that changes over the next while, we don’t know. But we have him on a really good contract and we are in a strong position to rebuff any interest in him.

“We don’t want to sell him.

"We are happy with him and he seems quite happy here. We are going for ten in a row and that might be a big motivating factor for him to stay."
