Shola Ameobi reveals Newcastle United staff are 'excited by the noises' around new takeover

Shola Ameobi has admitted he and the rest of Newcastle United’s staff are "excited" about the prospect of a takeover at the club.

The proposed takeover deal of the Magpies is now understood to be in the hands of the Premier League.

The club have maintained their "no comment" status on all enquiries, but it's understood that the group looking to broker a buy out of the Magpies remain confident that they will be able to confirm the deal soon.

There's no timeline on the announcement yet but it's understood Amanda Staveley's group have exclusivity until the middle of May.

And while Ameobi is yet to hear anything official on the takeover talk from the club, he admits he isn’t surprised as Mike Ashley liked to do things discreetly.

“We’re excited about all the noises that we’re hearing,” he told The Football Show on Sky Sports.

“But at the moment I'm at home with the kids, home schooling the kids, and just trying to stay safe.”

Before adding: “I think the one thing over the last six weeks while we’ve been on furlough, there’s not really been any communication, we’re not allowed to do our day to day job, so communication hasn’t been there.

“Lee Charnley has sent a couple of emails over this time to reassure us about what steps they’re trying to take but like you can imagine everything is silent.

“Mike likes to do things discreetly and in his own way, and as employees we don’t get to know any of that, so we’re the same as you guys, just waiting and seeing what comes.”
