A new shogi bar, Hachiwan Dining Bar, where you can drink sake while enjoying shogi, opened in Nagoya on Sunday.

Owner Naohito Inagaki, 46, is a former assistant for the shogi manga "81 (Hachiwan) diver." There are nine shogi boards in the bar and customers can also enjoy eating while playing shogi or watching other people's games.

In a preopening event held on Saturday night, Manao Kagawa, 26, a female third-dan-level shogi player, came to celebrate the bar's launch with about 10 customers. "I hope it will become a new attraction in Aichi [Prefecture], where shogi is popular," Kagawa said.

Tomoo Kaneko, 33, president of a company in Nagoya, said: "The food is also delicious with a homey taste. You can enjoy shogi even if you don't know how to play it."
