Shocking video shows thousands of revellers at pool party during festival in Wuhan

Shocking footage has emerged of thousands of revellers standing shoulder to shoulder at a music festival in Wuhan, China, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak.

The video was captured over the weekend at the Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park, which was hosting an open-air electronic music festival.

Taking place in a large swimming pool, thousands of people could be seen floating on inflatable rafts and wading in the water.

Guests did not appear to be wearing masks or adhering to social distancing measures.

It comes as China's Hubei province - where the virus was first discovered - lifted it's 76-day lockdown in early April.

In an effort to stop the spread of the virus, the Government imposed a strict set of rules, which included suspending public transport and restricting movement.

According to official totals, more than 3,000 people died as a result of the virus in Wuhan.

The city has not reported any new cases since mid-May.

But images from water park on August 15 have shocked much of the world, which is still struggling to control the disease several more than six months after its first appearance.

Globally, 21.9 million cases of the virus have been confirmed.

More than 774,000 people have died after testing positive for the disease.

Much of the western world is now preparing for the threat of a second wave during the autumn and winter, which is feared will emerge during a seasonal outbreak of influenza when healthcare systems are already stressed.
