Shocking video shows GAA players kicking their winning trophy around floor of local pub in Co Galway

This shocking video shows GAA players and supporters kicking a trophy they had earlier won around the floor of a local pub.

The video taken in Glenamaddy, Co Galway, shows a group of young men kicking the cup - which had its base and handles missing - along the floor before imitating a game of rugby with it.

Members of the group can be heard singing "Championes, championes ole ole ole" as they kicked the winning cup around the floor.

Footage also shows a player replace the bowl of the trophy with his head placing the handles at his ears and the trophy's base to his chin before placing the bowl on top of his head.

Glenamaddy beat Salthill-Knocknacarra in the county junior final but the victory has been marred by the video.

The video is believed to have been taken the day after the club's huge win earning them promotion to intermediate football.

The video, which lasts around 30 seconds, has caused red face within Glenamaddy GAA circles while County Board officials are horrified at what happened to their cup in the North Galway pub.

The county's Competition's Control Committee (CCC) are investigating the incident and sanctions against the club are believed to be likely.

The trophy seen in the video is believed to be one of the oldest in the county and was sponsored by a local GAA family.

It is understood the club have been contacted in relation to the incident and have been asked to give an account as to what happened with regard to the cup.

A County Board source said that such behaviour with a cup was unacceptable and that an explanation would have to be forthcoming.

A spokesman said: "It is not something that we will tolerate."
