Shocking take: SEC talking head Paul Finebaum thinks Ohio State is the best team in the country

Are you standing up? If so, sit down. Trust me.

It’s no secret the “Mouth of the South,” Paul Finebaum wrote the book on all things related to SEC football dominance. His talk show based in the heart of sweet tea and grits country was so popular, ESPN gave him a simulcast on the SEC Network when it launched a few years ago.

If you haven’t had a chance to dial up his show, I suggest doing so. It is a very-heavy caller-based slugfest that will leave you laughing and shaking your head many times over.

It’s not often you hear anything remotely close to positivity from any teams out side of the deep south emanating from his microphone. In fact, often times it seems as though he just stirs the pot by making claims so along the SEC party lines, you wonder if he’s just making it up. But, we just got a nugget from him that will no doubt burn up his phone lines this week in a not so good way.

While appearing on ESPN programming, Finebaum went on the record claiming Ohio State to be the best team he’s seen in 2019. And yes, that would include all the SEC behemoths like Georgia, LSU, Auburn, and yes — even Alabama.

You can catch the quick 30-second sound-bite below and hear and see actual visible proof of this below.

The last time we heard anything remotely close to this was back in 2015 when Ohio State was coming off a national title that left Alabama in its wake. Finebaum also was very complimentary of the Buckeye program early in the year that season, but the tune changed once the offense struggled a bit.

And, in the grand scheme of things, when Ohio State lost to Michigan State by 3-points at home, in a monsoon that year, the narrative was written that the Buckeyes were not one of the four best teams in the country. Even though, it steamrolled the rest of the year and looked every part of it.

Either way, there’s a ton of analysts and experts singing glowing, heavenly praises of what we’ve seen from Ohio State, and it’s nearly halfway through the season.

Okay, you can stand back up now.
