Shocking scenes outside Parkhead as fans hurl abuse and fences in Neil Lennon protest

Football fans hurled abuse and one threw a fence towards a police van in tense scenes at Celtic Park.

Groups of men clashed with police officers after attempting to storm Parkhead’s main entrance as they call for Neil Lennon to be sacked.

Videos emerged of groups being headed off by officers. They knocked over fences then faced a police human shield in front of the stadium.

At one point, a man then picks up a barrier and throws it at a parked police van. Earlier videos appeared to show fans knocking over a security fence with cops in attendance looking to keep angry fans at bay.

Police Scotland confirmed two officers suffered minor injuries while doing their jobs outside the east end stadium.

Superintendent Stevie Dolan, Greater Glasgow Division said: “Around 4.30pm on Sunday, 29 November, a large number of fans started to gather outside Celtic Park to protest.

“An appropriate policing response was carried out and the group has now dispersed. No arrests have been made however two officers sustained minor injuries as a result of the actions of the gathered group."

A large number of supporters - including the club’s ultras the Green Brigade - have previously urged the Celtic manager to walk.

A large police presence raced to Celtic Park in the aftermath of the result with fans currently locked out of Scottish football in the West of Scotland amid the pandemic.

Chants of “Sack the Board” have been heard from hundreds of supporters as the pressure mounts on Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond to make a decision over the future of the 49-year-old.
