Shocking scenes after police car crashes while responding to emergency in Broxtowe

These pictures show the aftermath of a crash involving a police car which was responding to an emergency.

Residents said they heard a "massive bang" at around 2am on the morning of Sunday, May 23, when a police car crashed into street furniture before coming to a stop up against a lamp post.

The incident happened in Strelley Road, Broxtowe.

Nottinghamshire Police said the driver of the response vehicle had to use evasive action to avoid crashing into another vehicle.

A spokeswoman said: "There was a minor collision between a car being driven by a member of the public and a police car as it was on blue lights responding to an emergency call at 2am.

"Evasive action was taken by officers to avoid a significant collision with the other car as it crossed into its path which resulted in the response car hitting street furniture and causing significant damage to the vehicle.

"No one was seriously injured."

A video from the scene shows debris scattered across the road, while smoke or steam emanates from the police car as it lies up against the lamp post.

Residents told Nottinghamshire Live numerous other police cars attended alongside the fire service and paramedics.

The area has since been fenced off and damage to a fence and pavement is still visible.
