Shocking pictures show the state of illegal dumping in inner city Dublin

Shocking pictures have emerged that reveal the state of illegal dumping in the city centre.

The pictures uploaded by councillor Anthony Flynn show various items dumped on the ground in Campbell's Row, Ballybough.

Plastic packaging, boxes, q-tips, and cartons are among the many household items scattered across the street.

And Cllr Flynn revealed this is an ongoing problem in some parts of the inner city.

He told Dublin Live: "This level of rubbish has been the same every day for a few weeks now.

"There was over €400,000 spent just in the central area last year cleaning up the same dumping that happens over and over again.

"Dublin 1 has a serious problem with illegal dumping and it's getting out of hand completely."

He added that more needs to be done to stop people discarding the rubbish in the street.

He concluded: "What we need now is proper enforcement, including a litter warden, and ensuring money is dedicated into this enforcement.

"However, we also need to make sure that those who are caught dumping will be taken to court and fined, it's the only way we can deal with the issue."
