Shocking pictures show lorry crash which closed the M60 for hours

The drivers of a lorry and mobile crane which slammed into each other on the M60 this morning miraculously escaped without any serious injuries.

Images of the crash show a number of vehicles stopped and the crane lying on its side after smashing through barriers on the outside of the anti-clockwise carriageway near junction 21.

The lorry is thought to have spun around and slammed into the central reservation.

The incident caused all lanes to be shut off as police, paramedics and firefighters rushed to the scene.

But, a spokesman for GMP has since confirmed that nobody was seriously hurt in the collision.

He said: "Police were called at around 7.10am today (Tuesday, May 12) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a mobile crane on the anti-clockwise side of the M60.

"The carriageway has been temporarily closed at junction 21 with traffic being diverted off and back on the motorway at that junction.

"The drivers of both vehicles – a man in his 20s and a man is his 60s – have received minor injuries.

"No arrests have been made."

Traffic officers spent the morning removing the damaged vehicles from the road.

It is expected to reopen soon.
