Shocking pictures reveal piles of rubbish 'left behind by travellers'

Shocking pictures have revealed the piles of rubbish allegedly left behind by travellers who set up camp at Durdham Down.

It was reported last month that a total of five caravans had moved onto the section close to where  Funderworld  takes place, at a time many people were using the area in the wake of lockdown easing.

A spokesperson for  Avon and Somerset Police  said the force was aware of the travellers and its neighbourhood team was working with Bristol City Council.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, took pictures of the waste which can now be found on Durdham Down, including building rubble, automotive parts and household waste.

He said he is not against travellers but takes issue with the mess that they have allegedly left behind.

"Whilst I realise that the travellers have a different life style to the majority of citizens, I don't think that stops them in any way from clearing up their own messes," he said.

"Building rubble, automotive parts, household waste and excrement litter the bushes and grass around their site.

"Surely there is some redress for this? The laws on fly tipping?

"This just annoyed me especially in this dreadful time when any open space has become so precious an asset to all of us."
