Shocking picture shows motorhome completely destroyed in Newark crash

A picture taken in the aftermath of a crash involving a lorry and a motorhome has been issued as a stark safety reminder.

Nottinghamshire Police was called to a crash between a lorry, a camper van and a car in Newark just before 11.50am today (7 September).

While there were no injuries, the incident lead to the closure of the A1 southbound between North Muskham to the Winthorpe roundabout.

Highways England posted to Twitter an image of the crash scene, showing what was left of the motorhome strewn across the carriageway, along with a strong warning.

It said: "Ever thought of sleeping in your motorhome whilst it is on the move? Here's a good reason why use of the correct seats is essential."

Due to the amount of damage from the collision, the road was expected to be closed for sometime to allow for recovery and clear debris.

A diversion was put in place, and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

The road was still closed as of 3.30pm on Monday, with long tailbacks in the area.

A police spokesman said: "If you saw what happened you should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 233 of 7 September 2020."
