Shocking photos show why this M6 driver is 'the luckiest in the world'

A motorist has been dubbed "the luckiest driver in the world" after he was involved in a horrific crash.

Pictures of the collision show a tyre which came off a lorry and smashed through a car's windscreen.

The tyre "detached" from the HGV on the opposite side of the motorway, was launched across the central reservation and was lodged into the car next to the driver.

Somehow he managed to pull onto the hard shoulder and remain calm.

Lancashire Roads Policing Unit shared the shocking pictures of the accident dubbing the driver the "luckiest in the world," Liverpool Echo reports.

The crash took place on the M6 near junction 28 for Leyland.

Sharing shocking pictures from the accident police praised the man for his quick thinking and confirmed he miraculously walked away with only minor injuries.

The driver's young son had wanted to go with his dad but thankfully he wasn't able to as pictures showed the roof of the car having completely collapsed onto the boy's car seat.

Two tweets from the policing unit read:"The driver of this car is the luckiest person in the world right now. This tyre detached from an HGV on the M6 at jct28, crossed the central barrier & struck an oncoming vehicle. How they got it to the shoulder and got out is beyond us. Thankfully minor injuries.  T1TacOps

"The driver's young son wanted to come out with Dad. Thankfully he was unable to take him, but it doesn't bear thinking about what would have happened had his son been in this car seat."
