Shocking photographs show the aftermath of fireworks havoc in Harehills

These shocking photographs show the damage caused by teenagers who wreaked havoc in Harehills on Bonfire Night by starting fires and launching fireworks at police and members of the public.

West Yorkshire Police officers were sent with riot shields attempting to deal with the teenagers and young men on Harehills Road late last night. Several arrests were made.

No one was injured but the people of Harehills have been left to deal with the devastation.

Burnt out bonfires filled with metal, melted bins and smoldering mounds of rubbish are strewn across Harehills.

Chief superintendent Damien Miller said: “In conjunction with our partner agencies, we have prepared for all possible eventualities over the bonfire period.

“We made it clear from the outset that any instances of disorder or antisocial behaviour would not be tolerated and we were able to quickly respond.

“Those individuals that engage in such behaviour are within the minority and do not represent the wider community.

“We will continue to provide reassurance in the local area with high visibility patrols.”
