Shocking moment sly thieves make off with £2,000 haul in Square mile pub theft

Two bag thieves swiped a bag containing £2000 of items from a unsuspected customer in a pub in the City of London.

Hecham Bourhar, 29, and Mohammed Kraifa, 34, both of Wood Street, Walthamstow , were only caught thanks to CCTV - with each sentenced to 18 weeks in prison for theft.

Bourhar was also sentenced to eight weeks in prison for breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order, banning him from entering the City of London, which he will serve concurrently.

On Tuesday 11 November, the pair were seen on CCTV at a pub on New Street, where Kraifa used his foot to drag a bag along the floor away from the victim and closer to them. Bourhar then swiftly picks up the bag before both men walk away.

The bag contained a laptop and other personal items.

Sergeant James Wood, of the Proactive Acquisitive Crime Team at the City of London Police, said:“By using all our resources in tracking down bag thieves, we have already made significant arrests which have led to a number of successful prosecutions. This is another great result, with two bag thieves behind bars.

“Our dedicated officers are working tirelessly to identify and apprehend individuals who target those who live, work and visit the Square Mile.”

In a separate case, officers arrested two men on suspicion of bag theft at a pub in Leadenhall Market on 20 November 2025.
