Shocking moment school bus bursts into flames with a 'loud bang' after dropping kids off

This is the shocking moment a school bus bursts into flames with a "loud bang" after dropping kids off.

The Notts & Derby service 240 school bus was carrying children from St Benedict's Catholic School, Derby, yesterday afternoon, June 11, when a devastating fire destroyed its vehicle, DerbyshireLive reported.

A child in the video can be heard saying "we were on that bus" as the vehicle reportedly caught fire after its last stop at around 3.40pm.

An investigation has been launched into the fire - but thankfully Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that nobody was injured in the incident.

However, a number of parents and students had claimed that there had been "smoke" coming from the bus prior to it catching fire.

These parents allege their concerns were ignored.

A spokesperson for Notts & Derby Buses confirmed that their buses only carry school and college pupils, or university students, as they confirmed that a full investigation will be taking place and is underway.

The company has also said that they will be checking the remaining buses in their fleet to ensure they are safe to run.

Following the shocking incident, police cordoned off parts of the road and it remained closed for some time, while the burnt bus was removed and put out safely.

Derby City Council also confirmed that a temporary lane closure on where the bus caught fire was in place this morning while resurfacing took place following the fire.

St Benedict's Catholic School has been approached for comment but is yet to respond.

Both Derbyshire police and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue confirmed they were present at the incident.
