Shocking moment driver cuts up bike rider on cycle lane in Oxford Road

This is the shocking moment a driver was caught on camera cutting up a cyclist in the cycle lane on Oxford Road.

Footage taken by Jack Fifield shows the moment he had to slam on his bike's brakes as the Toyota Yaris drives along the segregated bike path.

Jack, 23, recorded the footage as he cycled home to Ancoats from the Aquatic Centre on Thursday night.

The journalism student says drivers often cross the cycle lane to park on the pavement opposite.

He said: "I was pretty shocked, but at the same time it was completely expected.

"The amount of crazy drivers you see in Manchester is pretty saddening.

"The cycle lane on Oxford Road is pretty decent in parts, but it could be so much better.

"I use it every time I come home from swimming, but there's always lots of cars parking on the pavement.

"They have to cross the cycle lane to get there.

"It just saddens me. You would never let your child use the cycle lane because it's dangerous."

A Manchester City Council spokesman said: "Segregated cycle lanes are meant for cycle traffic only. Fortunately the action of this motorist did not result in a collision, but we would urge for all drivers to stay alert when on the roads, and in their right lane."

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for a comment.
