This is the shocking moment a lorry ploughed into a car on a busy motorway which was almost ripped in half by the impact.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Sunday (24/5) afternoon after reports of a crash on the southbound stretch of the M1.
The jaw-dropping pictures show the silver car smashed nearly in half - but thankfully everyone involved escaped the accident with only minor injuries.
The crash also left debris scattered across the motorway.
A tweet from Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit, which released the pictures, said: "M1 Southbound J29 to J28. Currently only one lane open due to collision. HGV vs car.
"Car was travelling in limp mode in lane one when the HGV crashed into the back of it.
"All parties including four occupants of the car escaped with only minor injuries."
Some on Twitter have raised alarms regarding the safety of the motorway.
David LaPew tweeted: “This stretch seems worse since they changed it to a Smart Motorway - thankfully no fatalities - stay safe.”
Callum Woodhouse added: “If there’s a hard shoulder the driver can use it. Yes the driver might not have been paying attention but if there's a hard shoulder it removes the danger for the car.”
