Shocking image of Scots dad mocking death of George Floyd sparks fury on social media

A shocking image of a Scots man mocking the death of tragic George Floyd has gone viral on social media.

The vile Snapchat picture has sparked fury across the country after Jordan Mcghie was seen appearing to kneel on an unnamed pal’s neck.

The image, which was originally sent in the early hours of Tuesday morning, was screenshotted by a disgusted recipient and shared on social media.

Jordan Mcghie, believed to be in his mid 20's, has been branded a 'scumbag' (Facebook)

A caption on the snap reads: “George Floyd challenge 2020. Raise awareness.”

The original Facebook post has since been deleted but dozens of furious social media users have blasted Mcghie for his stomach-churning actions.

Police Scotland confirmed they are also investigating the post.

A Facebook page belonging to the dad-of-one, who lives in Cupar, Fife, has also been deleted.

One furious viewer wrote: “He’s a ridneck of a laddie man, mocking the dead. I really hope someone gets the wee scumbag.”

Another said: “Wow, how low can you get. Scumbag needs a kicking or some jail time for that.”

A third added: “Utter scum. Being scum like this takes a lifetime commitment to being pure scum.”

And another wrote: “Absolutely disgusting behaviour. Police must do something about this.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Tuesday, 2 June, 2020, officers we were made aware of reports of an image relating to the death in the United States of George Floyd having been circulated on social media and are carrying out enquiries.”

The tragic death of George Floyd, 46, has sent shockwaves around the world after he died in America on May 25.

The unarmed father-of-two begged for his life and told police officers in Minneapolis that he was unable to breathe while a white cop knelt on his neck for several minutes.

Former police officer Derek Chauvin, who was sacked along with three others after footage of the shocking incident appeared, has since been charged with murder.

Protests and vigils are taking place around the world in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and in memory of Mr Floyd.

A socially distanced protest organised by Stand Up To Racism is due to take place across Scotland tonight with residents urged to ‘take a knee’ at 6pm.
