Speeding car slides into pole on busy Dublin residential street before driver does runner

Dangerous driving compounded by treacherous conditions led a speeding car to smash into an electricity pole on a residential Dublin before the driver ran off.

The broad daylight smash occurred on Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Cooley Road and Kilworth Road in Drimnagh.

Footage obtained by Dublin Live shows the silver car rallying down Kilworth Road at significant speed before failing to slow for a left turn at the intersection.

The car cannot make the turn and slides right into the pole, wiping out the front bumper, radiator, and headlight on the right hand side.

The driver hops out of the car and begins to walk away, much to the bemusement of one pedestrian - before stopping, considering going back to the car, and then turning and running away, leaving the steaming wreck behind unattended.

Gardai confirmed to Dublin Live that they are investigating the strange incident.

A Garda spokesperson told Dublin Live: "Gardai are investigating a traffic collision whereby a car crashed into a pole on the Cooley Road in Drimnagh on Sunday 15 November 2020 at 3.45pm.

"No injuries have been reported at this time.

"Investigations are ongoing."
