Shocking footage shows Oldham Athletic fans brawling with stewards on pitch during 6-0 defeat

Oldham Athletic fans protesting the club's ownership were seen fighting with stewards during the club's 6-0 loss to Wigan.

Some supporters took to the pitch at Boundary Park as the Latics took on the League One side in the Football League Trophy on Tuesday, January 4.

It follows a long-running row between fans and the club's owner Abdallah Lemsagam, who recently tried to ban three people from the stadium for 'promoting dislike' of him.

A video taken by Tom Farraday, 18, from the stands during the game shows fans beginning the leave the pitch while being pursued by stewards.

It was one of a number of stoppages caused by supporters going onto the pitch during the game.

In the clip, some stewards can be seen physically confronting fans, forcing some back into the stands and taking others out of the stadium.

Tom said: "I was shocked more than anything. Young kids were being assaulted by stewards.

"It got paused for a few minutes while they were taken of the pitch and then play continued."

The game ended in a heavy defeat for Oldham, who are suffering at the bottom of League Two this season and could drop into the National League if their form fails to improve.
