Shocking footage shows masked men fighting with hammer and machete in busy Leeds street

Shocking footage has emerged of masked men fighting each other with a hammer and a machete in a busy Leeds street.

West Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation and arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, after the fight broke out in Brudenell Road, Hyde Park, on Wednesday, March 25.

A 20-year-old man has also been treated for a stab wound to the leg.

The footage appears to show two young men, who have covered their faces with balaclavas, swing at each other with a hammer and a machete as a black car drives alongside.

A man can be heard shouting "put the knife down" as they make their way past Hyde Park Picture House, in front of shocked witnesses.

One of the young men then jumps into the car and it speeds away as they other man swings at him and another masked man chases the vehicle.

A man in a white top is also running alongside the vehicle, but he trips and the two men appear to attack him, before he gets to his feet and jumps in the car. 

West Yorkshire Police say officers were called to the scene at around 4pm, following reports of armed men fighting in the street.

A police spokesman said: "There were reports of them being armed with a machete and a hammer.

"Those involved had left the scene in two black cars.

"At 4.20pm, police were contacted by staff at Leeds General Infirmary who reported a 20-year-old man had attended with a stab injury to his thigh.

"He was treated and later discharged.

"A scene was put in place in Brudenell Road to undergo forensic examination.

"As a result of enquiries, an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in custody and enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact Leeds District CID via 101 quoting crime reference 13200152002."
